Description

A fun and supportive reading contest designed for migrants learning the host country language. Participants select short illustrated stories or adapted texts and read them aloud in pairs or solo. The activity encourages confidence in pronunciation, comprehension, and speaking, while fostering community through shared stories.

Objectives

Through this activity, participants will:
• Strengthen oral reading fluency and pronunciation in the new language.
• Develop vocabulary and reading comprehension.
• Build confidence through a friendly and supportive competition.
• Encourage library use and engagement with reading materials.

Prerequisites for the audience

Basic reading ability in the language of the host community (A1/A2 or early B1).

Equipment

• Pens, pencils and notepads

• Short adapted stories (ideally with illustrations).
• Flashcards for vocabulary reinforcement.
• Dictionaries, (online or print)
• (Optional) Printed questions for handouts
• (Optional) Small prizes for participants/ winners
